AYUSH Ministry, Govt of India issues guidelines for homeopathic practitioners to treat COVID-19 patients as adjuvant to the STP

So far it was unclear that whether homeopathic practitioners can treat COVID-19 patients or not. Now the ministry has issued this guidelines stating that patients of COVID-19 are to be treated with adjuvant homoeopathic medicines with the permission from local health authorities and Medical Superintendent of the Hospital.

Arsenic Trioxide ( Arsenic album ) as a war remedy against Covid 19 – a study report by Dr Manish Agarwala

कलकत्ता में रहने वाले होम्योपैथिक चिकित्सक डॉ. मनीष अग्रवाल कोविड 19 महामारी कॆ प्रकोप के बाद से Genus Epidemics का अध्ययन कर रहे हैं। अपनॆ 4-भाग कॆ अध्ययन मॆ वह पश्चिमी चिकित्सा , जैव रसायन विज्ञान, विकृति विज्ञान, शरीर क्रिया विज्ञान, विष विज्ञान और होम्योपैथी के संदर्भ में मुद्दों की पड़ताल करते हैं। उन्होंने कोविद 19 के लक्षणों , होम्योपैथिक औषध विज्ञान और Arsenic album के विषाक्त लक्षणों के बीच एक मजबूत संबंध पाया। उनकी प्रस्तुति इस अध्ययन का विस्तृत विवरण प्रस्तुत करती है ।
लेकिन सबसे पहलॆ करते हैं होम्योपैथी से जुडी शब्द “Genus epidemics ” की :
माहामारियों मे दवा का चुनाव अन्य चुनाव की अपेक्षा आसान हो जाता है क्योंकि रोग के लक्षण लगभग एक से ही रह्ते हैं । और दवा का चुनाव मुख्यत: एक या दो दवाओं पर आ टिकता है । ऐसी अवस्था मे चयनित दवा को “genus epidemicus” कहते हैं ।

The indicated remedy in pandemics is usually very consistent and called the “genus epidemicus“. This is narrowed down to a shortlist of three or less.

“ यह सच है कि आयुष मंत्रालय (भारत) के सीसीआरएच द्वारा आर्सेनिकम एल्बम का सुझाव दिया गया था, हालांकि उनके सुझाव अस्पष्ट और तथ्यहीन थॆ । CCRH एक तरह से ILI-influenza प्रकार की आम बीमारी मॆ प्रयोग करनॆ की हिमायत कर रहा था । बाद में, मंत्रालय ने आंशिक रूप से सलाह को वापस ले लिया । लेकिन तथ्य और विश्लेषण के अनुसार से – आर्सेनिकम एल्बम जीनस एपिडेमिकस के साथ-साथ कोविड -19 महामारी के लिए ही उपचारात्मक उपाय साबित हुई है ।
आरम्भ में अलग २ होम्योपैथिक शिक्षाविद्ध और चिकित्सकॊ का भी दृष्टिकोण अलग २ रहा । कुछ bryonia , gelsemium , belladona या camphor कॆ पक्ष मे थे । लेकिन होम्योपैथिक दृष्टिकोण से हर दवा का चुनाव totality के आधार पर ओता है जिसे कोविड 19 और इन दवाओं मे मेल बिल्कुल नही दिखा । totality अगर देखी गई तो सिर्फ़ आर्सेनेक के साथ ।

Apart from usual symptoms that are common between all three – example of rare symptoms common between all three are: Immuno-suppression / loss of taste or smell / Acute Necrotic Encephalopathy or Demyelinating Encephalopathy / the rare symptom of Rhabdomyolysis. Homeopathic Mini-repertory App for Covid 19 developed by Liga Medicorum Homeopathica Internationalis (LMHI)

This app has been developed using the experience of medical homeopaths worldwide who have responded to requests for help by COVID-19 patients. As is often the case in epidemics, a small number of remedies are perceived to be helpful by a large proportion of patients. Homeopathy pills for covid19 patients from two Mumbai wards with most cases

After hydroxychloroquine (HCQ), the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to adopt homeopathy to prevent the outbreak of Covid-19 among the residents of two worst-affected wards in the city. The civic body said all asymptomatic patients in the red zones of G North and K West wards will be provided with Arsenicum Album 30 – homeopathy pills – free of cost.

This decision comes after the Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy (CCRH), under the ministry of AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy), recommended the use of Arsenicum Album 30 as a prophylaxis (preventive medicine) against coronavirus. Earlier, HT had reported that BMC was consulting homeopathic doctors over the proposed medicine.

On Monday, Dr Padmaja Keskar, executive health officer, BMC, issued a circular regarding the implementation of the plan. She directed the ward officers of G North and K West to give the medicine to asymptomatic patients. “States like Kerala and Andhra Pradesh have already started giving the medicines to their patients and haven’t observed any side effects. So, we too decided to administer the medicines in wards with high number of Covid cases,” she said.

Arsenicum Album 30 is a known immune-modulator, widely prescribed for influenza-like-illnesses.

Dr Ajit Funde, associated with Maharashtra Homoeopathic Council, said the pill was showing promising results in other states. “Just like anti-malaria drugs—hydroxychloroquine, Arsenicum Album 30 has proven to be effective,” he said.

Central railway distributes Arsenic Album as prophylactic against covid19

Press Press Release from CENTRAL RAILWAY, HEAD QUARTER’S OFFICE posted on 29/01/2020 by Press Information Bureau, Goverunent of India on the Advisory of Ministry of AYUSH to recess the symptoms of respiratory tract tn possible Corona virus infected cases is reproduced below:

“At the instance of Ministry of AYUSIL,Central Council for Research in
Homeopathy (CCRH) discussed the ways and means of prevention of
Coronavirus infection through Homeopathy in 64th meeting of its Scientific
Advisory Board on 28* January 2020,The Group of Experts inter-alia has
recommended that homeopathy medicine Arsenicum album 30 could be taken as prophylactic medicine against Coronavirus Infections,which has also been advised for prevention of ILI. It has recommended one doze of Arsenicum album 30,daily in empty stomach for three days.The dose should be repeated after one month by following the same schedule in case Coronavinus infections prevail in the community.”
In Central Railway,6(six) homeopathy dispensaries are functioning under the Staff Benefit Fund(SBF) at the following Railway Hospital  locations :
I)Byculla,2)Kalyan,3)Bhusaval,4)Pune,5)Nagpur,6)Solapur
In view of the above Advisory of Ministry of AYUSH,it is recommended that all six homeopathy dispensaries on CR may procure sufficient quantity of homeopathy medicine Arsenicum Album 30 and use as prophylactic medicine against Coronavirus infections subject to the approval of the Consultant (Doctor).It is advised that the additional cost towards the procurement of sufficient quantity of homeopathy medicine Arsenicum album 30 will be reimbursed by the SBF. “

Mumbai: In a letter addressed to the Director of the Central Council of Homeopathy (CCH) in New Delhi, the Dean of Seven Hills Hospital in Marol – a municipal hospital serving as a COVID-19 isolation hospital – has said that homeopathic medicine Zincum Muriaticum, at a dilution of 200 C, was given to some COVID-19 patients at the hospital, and that the recovery of these patients was a day or two earlier than other COVID-19 patients.

Joshi has also sought permission from the Director of the CCH – which is a statutory body under the Ministry of AYUSH – to administer the same medication to more COVID-19 patients at the hospital. In his letter, dated April 21, the Dean of Seven Hills wrote, “This is with regards to the use of homeopathic medicines Zincum Muriaticum 200c (Four pills three times a day). When we used this above mentioned homeopathic medication to the COVID-19 positive patients in the SevenHills COVID-19 isolation hospital, Mumbai, it was observed that the recovery of patients was a day or two before other positive patients.”

“We have used this medication for 24 patients, wherein the above outcome was observed. This will be followed with more number of patients with your permission,” Joshi’s letter states. When contacted, Joshi told The Free Press Journal: “I believe in homeopathy, and I have trust and faith in this. I have given it to some of the patients, and the results were effective.”

“I have heard that the ministry is also looking into it, and has said that practitioners of other streams of medicine can also come forward if they have any ideas on how to cure coronavirus patients. I am aware that discussions are on with the central government, and that a letter has been sent in this regard by the Dean”, said Daksha Shah, Deputy Executive Health Officer, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

There is no vaccine or specific treatment proven to prevent or cure Covid-19 currently. Doctors in Mumbai have had a fair measure of success in curing patients with a combination of drugs used to treat swine flu, malaria, and HIV. For want of a specific vaccine or medication for Covid-19, doctors have been forced to fall back on hydroxychloroquine, oseltamivir, and Lopinavir and other medicines as the course of treatment so far. The same line of treatment is being used for patients ranging in age between 35 and 70. The treatment protocol of some of the cured patients shows that this cocktail of drugs has been successful in fighting the virus.

Government of the National Capital of Delhi issued an advisory to utilise homoeopathy and other Ayush systems in the prevention and treatment of Covid 19 

All the DM’s/CDMOs/MSs looking after the Hot spots, CTC, CCC and CH are hereby directed to facilitate the incorporation of AYUSH systems as per the advisory of Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India that includes changes in the diet of COVID patients, using their drugs in addition to the standard protocol being followed in the prevention and management of COVID pandemic. 

These initiatives shall be executed by the AYUSH doctors being posted in the field. All these activities shall be supervised by Dr Raj K Manchanda, Director, Directorate of AYUSH, Govt. of NCT of Delhi (email: directorateofismh@gmail.com). 

Earlier Govt of Delhi adopted Nehru Homoeopathy Medical College as the centre for Covid 19 treatment and posted Homoeopathy doctors of BR Sur Homoeopathy Medical College and Nehru Homoeopathy Medica College.

Short-term research projects for evaluating the impact of AYUSH interventions/ medicines in the prophylaxis and clinical management of COVID-19

All the institutions/hospitals engaged in the prophylactic treatment and clinical management of COVID-19 please submit the evaluation

Ministry of AYUSH with an intention to support short-term research proposals for evaluating the role and impact of AYUSH interventions/medicines in the prophylaxis and clinical management of SARS-CoV-2 infection and COVID-19, has designed a mechanism for the same. This mechanism is a modification of the existing EMR Scheme, to the extent as detailed in the Annexure-II of this OM. 

2. In order to expedite receipt of proposals from eligible institutions/hospitals, a notification is enclosed along with application format (Annexure with three Appendices). 

All the concerned offices are requested to circulate this OM and annexure to all the institutions/hospitals engaged in the prophylactic treatment and clinical management of COVID-19 cases and give it wide publicity.
