Homeopathic drugs Natrum sulphuricum and Carcinosin prevent azo dye-induced hepatocarcinogenesis in mice

कल्याणी यूनिवर्सिटी के श्री अनीसुर रहमान खुदाबख्श और उनके सहयोगियों का  ’Homeopathic drugs Natrum sulphuricum and Carcinosin prevent azo dye-induced hepatocarcinogenesis in mice’ और आमला कैन्सर रिसर्च सेन्टर , केरल के रामदास कुटन , हरीकुमार और अन्य का शोध पत्र , ’ Inhibition of Chemically Induced Carcinogenesis by Drugs Used in Homeopathic Medicine ’ ।

१. सामान्य अनुपचारित;

३.  p-DAB (0.06%) + PB (0.05%);

४. p-DAB + PB + एल्कोहल उपचारित

५. p-DAB + PB + Nat sulph-30

६. p-DAB + PB + Car-200

७. p-DAB + PB + Nat sulph-30+Car-200

परिणाम दिखाते हैं कि सिर्फ़ नैट्रेम सल्फ़ ३० ( Nat sulph-30) पर  रखे गये कैन्सर से पीडित चूहों और कारसीनोसिन २०० को नैट्र्म सल्फ़ के साथ संयोजित करके चूहों मे लीवर की कई गांठॊ ( liver tumours ) मे व्यापक सुधार दिखाई दिया और  कई क्षेत्रों मे सकारात्मक और संरचनात्मक परिवर्तन दिखाई दिये जैसे MMPs expression, genotoxic parameters, lipid peroxidation, y-glutamyl transferase, lactate dehydrogenase, blood glucose, bilirubin, creatinine, urea and increased GSH, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione reductase activities and hemoglobin, cholesterol, and albumin levels.

The study was undertaken to examine whether Carcinosin-200 (Car-200) could provide additional ameliorative effect, if used intermittently with Natrum sulphuricum-30 (Nat sulph-30) against hepatocarcinogenesis induced by chronic feeding of p-dimethylaminoazobenzene (p-DAB) and phenobarbital (PB) in mice (Mus musculus).

Mice were randomly divided into seven sub-groups:

(i) normal untreated;

(ii) normal+succussed alcohol;

(iii) p-DAB (0.06%) + PB (0.05%);

(iv) p-DAB + PB +succussed alcohol

(v) p-DAB + PB + Nat sulph-30,

(vi) p-DAB + PB + Car-200, and

(vii) p-DAB + PB + Nat sulph-30+Car-200.

They were sacrificed at 30, 60, 90 and 120 days for assessment of genotoxicity through cytogenetical end-points like chromosome aberrations, micronuclei, mitotic index and sperm head anomaly and cytotoxicity through assay of widely accepted biomarkers and pathophysiological parameters.

Additionally, electron microscopic studies and gelatin zymography for matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) were conducted in liver at 90 and 120 days.

Results showed that administration of Nat sulph-30 alone and in combination with Car-200 reduced the liver tumors with positive ultra- structural changes and in MMPs expression, genotoxic parameters, lipid peroxidation, y-glutamyl transferase, lactate dehydrogenase, blood glucose, bilirubin, creatinine, urea and increased GSH, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione reductase activities and hemoglobin, cholesterol, and albumin levels.

Thus intermittent use of Car-200 along with Nat sulph-30 yielded additional benefit against genotoxicity, cytotoxicity hepatotoxicity and oxidative stress induced by the carcinogens during hepatocarcinogenesis.

‘Pratisaad- The Response’ holds on to the truth
‘The tongue has no bone and it wiggles more against the celebrities than the common man.’ The more you are popular and a celebrity, you are bound to be targeted by your opponents by way of criticism. This is a common observation and the success of homeopathy treatment and their practicing doctors are no exception to such controversies.

Today, Marathi films are coming up with new ideas based on realities in life and the audience is ready for it. ‘Pratisaad-The Response’ the latest released film has come out with a revolutionary theme, which has been converted into a full length feature film by director Yogesh Dattatray Gosavi. In fact, it is the first film in the world on the backdrop of Homeopathy treatment and its success. Moreover, the film is based on a real life story of practicing Homeopath – Dr. Vijaysinha Amarsinha Nikam, who is also the producer of this film.

In the film, Dr. Aditya ( Sandeep Kulkarni) , a leading Homeopathy practitioner with his full fledged hospital, is challenged by a phone call in the midst of a live TV interview series. The caller – Sarjerao (Kishore Kadam) accuses him of using fraudulent means of treatment and the TV host on the suggestion of his Programme producer, flares up the issue by asking Dr. Aditya to react on the media reports quoting Homeopathy as ‘fake science’. Needless to say that the media furore follows, giving a new twist to this debate for higher TRP’s..

The law soon steps in and you find a Police officer investigating the case, on a complaint received from Sarjerao. In comes Ms. Renu( Neelam Shirke) posing herself as Journalist and she too carries her investigation, much to the satisfaction of the doctor, who at that point is feeling dejected by such allegations, in spite of his sincerity to his profession. His motivation at that stage is also his better half (Nilambari) who keeps on reminding him that ‘Truth always wins’. Finally, Dr. Aditya wins his battle, when Ms. Renu reveals the truth in a climax, during the second part of the live TV show.
The overall effort of the director to present this theme has been good. Very cleverly, he has tried to focus on the Doctor-Patient relationship i.e. more than treating the disease, the medicine treats the patient. The screenplay also highlights the role played by a committed doctor to convince effectively the close relative of the patient and that is the real strength of the film. After all, it is the attitude of the patient’s relatives that is to be handled well. However, in this film, in spite of his best efforts, the doctor fails to convince an adamant Sarjerao, for obvious reasons, which are disclosed at the end of the film.
‘Pratisaad-the Response’ is a path breaking film, which not only creates awareness about the treatment of Homeopathy but also goes beyond the traditional therapy, revealing certain facts. Sandeep Kulkarni as Dr. Aditya is very impressive. Watching his emotions in that climax scene at the TV studio, while admitting how much of faith his wife had in him, clearly proves his class. Kishore kadam, another talented actor has supported him well in the role of Sarjero. Neelam Shirke as Ms. Renu, does an excellent job, with a good support coming from other artistes. All the hospital scenes have been captured well. One background song has been used at the appropriate place. Editing work is satisfactory. Photography is good, but there are too many close ups in the film and those repeatedly used are of the male TV host for no particular reason. Barring that lapse, the film is well presented with the hope of getting international recognition for dealing effectively with an universal theme.

Homeopathy is considered as one modality for cancer therapy. However, there are only very few clinical reports on the activity of the drugs, as well as in experimental animals. Presently we have evaluated the inhibitory effects of potentized homeopathic preparations against N’- nitrosodiethylamine (NDEA) induced hepatocellular carcinoma in rats as well as 3- methylcholanthrene-induced sarcomas in mice. We have used Ruta, Hydrastis, Lycopodium and Thuja, which are commonly employed in homeopathy for treating cancer. Administration of NDEA in rats resulted in tumor induction in the liver and elevated marker enzymes such as gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase, glutamate pyruvate transaminase, glutamate oxaloacetate transaminase and alkaline phosphatase in the serum and in liver. Concomitant administration of homeopathic drugs retarded the tumor growth and significantly reduced the elevated marker enzymes level as revealed by morphological, biochemical and histopathological evaluation. Out of the four drugs studied, Ruta 200c showed maximum inhibition of liver tumor development. Ruta 200c and phosphorus 1M were found to reduce the incidence of 3-methylcholanthreneinduced sarcomas and also increase the life span of mice harboring the tumours. These studies demonstrate that homeopathic drugs, at ultra low doses, may be able to decrease tumor induction by carcinogen administration. At present we do not know the mechanisms of action of these drugs useful against carcinogenesis.

New Study at Dutch University: Homeopathy Works for E-Coli Diarrhoea

A research study at the Wageningen University in Holland suggests that homeopathy may be an alternative to antibiotics in neonatal diarrhoea of piglets. This is a randomised, observer blind and placebo-controlled trial done on piglets, not prone to placebo effect. It is another remarkable example of a study showing that homeopathy works and that there is scientific verification for it. You can find the results in pubmed.

The Biological Farming Systems Group at the Wageningen University in the Netherlands recently conducted a research study to investigate if homeopathy might be an alternative to antibiotics in one of the most common illnesses in swine which is neonatal diarrhoea of piglets. This disease leads to weight loss and increased piglet mortality, which has substantial economic consequences. Conventional treatments of Escherichia coli (E. coli) diarrhoea is administration of antibiotics to affected piglets, or preventive vaccination of the sows.

To investigate if E. coli diarrhoea in neonatal piglets could be prevented by homeopathy, the researchers set up a randomised, observer blind and placebo-controlled trial. On a commercial pig farm 52 sows of different parities, in their last month of gestation, were treated twice a week with either the homeopathic agent Coli 30K or placebo. The 525 piglets born from these sows were scored for occurrence and duration of diarrhoea.

Piglets of the homeopathic treated group had significantly less E. coli diarrhoea than piglets in the placebo group (P < .0001). Especially piglets from first parity sows gave a good response to treatment with Coli 30K. The diarrhoea seemed to be less severe in the homeopathically treated litters, there was less transmission and duration appeared shorter.

Advantages at farm level are application of the treatment by the farmer and cost reduction. These advantages and the positive results from this study make the homeopathic agent Coli 30K an attractive potential alternative in the prevention of E. coli diarrhoea. This study also suggests that homeopathic treatment in livestock may help the European citizen be protected from pharmacological residues in animal products and thus reduce the problem of antibiotic resistance.
